Alberto M Pereira (1966), born in Uruguay, attended the University of Amsterdam (MD 1992) and the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam where he specialized in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology (PhD 2000). Since 2000 he works as a pituitary endocrinologist at the Department of Endocrinology & Metabolism, Leiden University Medical Center. In 2006-2007 he was a research fellow at the Gorlaeus Laboratory, Leiden/Amsterdam Center of Drug Research (prof ER de Kloet).
At present, Alberto Pereira is Chair of the Leiden Pituitary Workgroup, and Chairman of the Academic Residency Program in Clinical Endocrinology, at the Leiden University Medical Center, the Netherlands. His research focuses on the long-term consequences of pituitary disease, and in specific, on the effects of stress on cardiovascular and neuropsychological outcome. He has supervised 10 PhD theses and has published over 160 original papers and invited reviews.
